AARHUS

As part of the proposal it is decided the location of the building as well as the demolition or not of the existing buildings. It is now an area that is occupied by some railway facilities in disuse, not far away from the center of the city, and the well known Jacobsen Town Hall. To finish the baseline data there are set some urban requirements that we must fulfill, as well as solving the location of some social dwelling, one parking tower and the Jultand Museum, being Aarhus the largest city of that region.

We proposed to place the new school in the southern plot, keeping that way two out of three existing buildings. The one on the south (surrounded by the proposal), will be the administration area of the school, whereas the north one (separated from it) will house the Jutland Museum. The common uses of the new school are placed at the ground level, while the classes and related spaces are placed, conceptually and physically, above them, enjoying the views and sunshine of the south orientation.

The proposal shows to the city two very different facades, stating both different surrounding scales. Towards the south is borrowing the “small scale” of close buildings by juxtaposing small fronts, remembering the domestic appearance. A more forceful and unitary image is presented northward, where the circulation spine assure the flexibility in use, and accessibility to all levels of the new school.

SAN CLAUDIO

The project consists of the volumetric and material definition for the new buildings to be realized in the Expansion of the Sewage Treatment Plant of San Claudio, near Oviedo.

Being established the position and function of each element as well as the free heights required (according to hoists, bridge cranes, vertical pumps opening or access to machinery and spare parts), our objective is to provide the new buildings of volumes that respect the rural environment where they are located that meet the needs of use and heights demanded, using materials of low cost and simple maintenance.

Steel structure buildings support on large concrete tanks in situ through which the water circulates and is treated. There are two, Pretreatment and Reagents. These buildings of remarkable size are covered with embossed aluminum in order to dematerialize their volume and, thus, reducing their impact.

Three manholes are added as an access point to underground pipelines made in colored concrete to facilitate its identification.

The broken silhouette of the proposal is related to those of the nearby village houses and the change of material in the fronts reduces its scale. The plastered concrete block and the translucent polycarbonate allow its integration and natural lighting.

The square holes of uncertain size due to their lack of detail, confuse the spectator about the true size of the main building.

The whole results in a cocktail of different buildings forced to understand each other in a green and privileged rural environment.

MONTEPORREIRO

Monteporreiro is a natural place next to the river Lérez, few kilometers from the city of Pontevedra. In this place, there is a catchment and pumping of water from the river for urban supply.

The increase in population to be supplied necessitates the expansion of capacity of the aforementioned collection and pumping station, maintaining its position along the river. The increase in capacity is achieved by means of new pumps whose height in both use (lowering) and maintenance (high) must be covered by the new building, which determines the minimum height of the same. This is the first condition of the project.

The second condition is the need to ensure a minimum ventilation surface to the interior to ensure the salubrity of the jobs that are developed.

The third condition is that the construction has to be done with precast concrete up to 120cm high.

The project poses a simple solution to the three conditions: prefabricated units reach the minimum height necessary for the operation and maintenance of the pumps and are gradually separated from each other until the necessary ventilation surface is reached, as well as the “gravity” of the final volume. Two metal fronts, like gates, complete the needs of the program.

It is thus formalized as a large abstract element that is only related to the light metallic bridge in the vicinity; unique elements built in the leafy and thick vegetation on the banks of the river.

AALTO

The connection is presented lightweight and transparent, distinguishing from the solid original constructions but respecting the image of both museums as they were concieved by Alvar Aalto.

Volumetrics keeps both museums composition with basement and skylight, as well as the outline and nature of the enclosure try to harmonize with the scale of the connected buildings.

The required fluency of the circulations are reflected by the ramps, supported by the stairs and elevator, that naturally connect the different levels of the museums.

The shop and its diverse exhibition needs make this new connection space, so it’s not a connection gateway and a shop, but a shop that works as a connection itself.

A shop open to the visitors and with the permanent presence of the leafy background, as well as the raison d’etre of this extension: the two museums of Alvar Aalto.

The outdoor access destined to the staff and the supply of goods end up connecting this space to the routinary supporting activities of both museums.

We propose therefore a discreet connection element that, integrating with the existing buildings, tries to solve the current needs in a simple and respectful way in this valuable architectural context that is enjoyed by the city of Jyväskylä.

ARESES

This classic dental clinic is a prominent building in the Plaza de Alonso Martinez Madrid. The quality of the building invites clients to expect clinics at the same quality level.

To date, all activities occurred in all areas, overlapping applications at the same time. For this reason we were asked to integrate a customer service area without creating conflicts with the current organization of dental offices that consist essentially of a counter and a small office.

Through a large translucent screen this office may be having an open position when in use or closed to allow passage to the first room.

The main procedure is performed by carpenters who prepared almost all of their work at the workshop and then set it up in the shortest possible time at the clinic avoiding unforeseen work stoppage.

The choice of fixtures, furniture and signage eventually determine a new image still respectful of the distinguished clinical space in which they´re found.

IOC DORESTE

This second clinic IOC is on a major boulevard in one of the most prominent buildings of the city. Contrary to what happened in the neighborhood, this place has a large area of exposure to the street in relation to its size and is situated a few steps above the pedestrian level, which determines the distinguished character it has in this environment.

A free standing centerpiece serves to locate technical support spaces surrounding cabinets while anchoring the position of the reception area and waiting room, both directly related to the life of the city.

The commission consists of a renovation for a Dental Clinic located in a town located midway between Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the tourist resorts to the south of the island.

The moderate size of the facade conceals the size of the Clinic which extends surprisingly towards the back of the building.

The opposite facade is used as a code required egress given the size of the premises.

This unique starting condition makes the general space of movement and anticipation the true protagonist of the proposal.
Resolved with a broken, polygonal geometry, which distinguishes it from the orthogonal geometry used in technical work areas , there is an unexpected dynamism that may happily distract the patient from the purpose of his visit while touring the clinic.

Complementary to the specific resolution of the layout, the request should also lay the foundation for ” corporate space ” applicable to future sites used by this growing company.

Clean surfaces , solid floors , and large panels are used to reduce the number of joints , simple colors according to the different areas of the premises and indirect lighting systems ; all with the intention of creating a friendly space with the necessity of hygiene and precision appropriate to a dental clinic
